We provide a comprehensive compendium of practical methods for implementing their own science citizen projects
Learning modules: Our modules will help you to realise your own Citizen Science project. We accompany you from the initial development of your idea to the realisation of your own playbox. You can work through these modules step by step or start directly with a specific topic.
Repository: In our repository you will find supporting exercises and practical examples of Science Citizen projects
Module #1 – Introduction
The first module provides an initial insight into the topic of Citizen Science. It provides orientation and lays the foundation for your personal path to your own project.
Module #2 – Prepare yourself
Module 2 prepares participants to carry out a Citizen Science project, from developing an idea to actually planning a project. The activities are aimed at researchers who either want to share their work with the public or seek public input, but also at citizens who want to set up their own Citizen Science project.
Module #3 – How to create dialogue
This module is aimed to provide useful insights for group leaders in facilitating dialogue with the participants and among the participants. The module consists of five sessions.
Module #4 – How to co-create knowledge
This module will provide a practical and strategic overview for collaboration, enabling you to personally apply co-creation principles and explore their impact on participatory science. Among the activities proposed, we will examine Design Thinking, Crowdsourcing, Advocacy, Conditional Design, and Qualitative Interviews
Module #5 – How to help citizens understand their needs and formulate research challenges
Learn about the concept of bottom-up citizen science and its significance. You will explore the historical context, key principles, and real-world examples of citizen science projects, when the participants will gin an understanding of why involving citizens in research is essential for addressing complex social challenges.
Module #6 – How to create a playbox
This module provides an overview of the structure, methodologies, and learning outcomes of a co-creation process aimed at developing infotainment games on scientific topics. It details the steps and tools used to design and facilitate a collaborative ideation process, following the principles of human-centered design. Participants will gain insights into structuring and leading co-design sessions, along with practical methodologies, facilitation tips, and specific tools created for this context.
