The “learning by doing” approach, together with the use of multidisciplinary materials and tools, allows us to create projects of empowerment, social design and territorial research.
The research was promoted for the citizens, for the students as a new teaching methodology that allows learning new educational themes while having fun.
Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of our project are children and students.
The age range of the beneficiaries:
- Under 12 years old
- 12-17 years old
- 18-24 years old
- 25-34 years old
a. Building dialogue between research and society
Important topics are discussed and seemingly far from the general interest, such as science: everyday ingredients like food, fruit and vegetables are used. This strengthens the dialogue between daily life and research
b. Co-creation of new knowledge
It puts the participants in the workshop in a situation of listening and realization not only of learning by doing but learning cocreando. The mistake in this type of laboratory becomes an opportunity for learning.
c. Creating positive impact in society
It is surprising to be able to learn different and sometimes difficult topics, through experiments and games that allow learning by doing and transmitting knowledge in turn.
d. Empower citizens to contribute by expressing their real needs and problem
Through horizontal laboratories. In the laboratory there are no lectures but learning is the result of a collective experimentation. The process grows every time each participant tries to make it more sustainable

This project links society and science because “in this case, we explainesd chemical and scientific concepts through a workshop: we used the cabbage as a ph detector of the ingredients (when the cabbage juice is in contact with other ingredients, this liquid reacts by altering the color, changing the wavelength and making us understand from the color if an ingredient is acidic or basic).”
Participants are involved in applying the method in their community/peer group since “We draw from multiple fields such as culture, positive psychology, social design, art and thought to create targeted experiences that have the power to bring out surprise and joy in the people for whom we plan.
We involve participants in applying the method, pushing them into experimentation, discovering and not being afraid to try.”

The process is the product.
The most important aspects of a process are time, relationship and change.
The process produces formations rather (piuttosto) than forms.
We search for unexpected but correlative, emergent patterns.
Even though a process has the appearance of objectivity, we realize the fact that it stems from subjective intentions.”

It is just a medium to understand some scientific and chemical processes through manual and artistic practices
|What makes your project innovative?||Learning Experience Design is innovative because it respects the organic nature of individuals and cultural organizations. it is an ongoing project that is enriched with the contributions of the people participating in the workshops.|

|What are the strengths of your project?||It is a project that uses different tools|
|What are the weaknesses of your project?||Often the description of the process and the intervention channels are not immediate. It is not always easy to convey the importance of the learning process with respect to the product.|
|What are the opportunities you can see for your project?||Overcoming challenges on how to bring citizens closer to important issues such as respect, health, civics, science (…) through the manipulation of different materials and play as a learning tool.|
|What are the threats you can see for your project?||It is an independent project and is not always sustainable.|
|Tell us a success story/anecdote related to your project||One day we were in crisis because we could not find in the markets of our city, the main ingredient of our laboratory (the red cabbage is not very consumed and widespread in Italy). While we were demoralized and we did not know how to solve this problem, we experimented the laboratory with other ingredients (tea, beet). The result was unexpected and excellent!|
